Strong Mamas

“I used to hate my son. But now the feeling has gone away. I have learnt how to listen to him and when he communicates to me, I can listen and understand.”

For many mothers raising children with special needs in Kenya, the journey can feel isolating, overwhelming, and unsupported.

Strong Mamas was created to change that.

What began as simple conversations with mothers in schools and communities soon revealed the deep challenges many families were facing -stigma, mental health struggles, financial hardship, and a lack of understanding surrounding disability. Yet within those conversations, something powerful also emerged: resilience, strength, and the desire for connection.

Mama Respond began walking alongside these mothers, creating safe spaces where they could share their experiences, support one another, and learn together. Over time,Strong Mamas has grown into a thriving community of women advocating for their children, building confidence, and creating brighter futures for their families.

Through training, outreach, peer support, and small business opportunities, mothers gain practical skills, emotional support, and financial independence while becoming leaders within their communities.
