Inclusive Spaces, Kenya
Every child deserves to learn, play, and grow in an environment where they feel safe, valued, and included.
At Mama Respond, we work to create inclusive spaces where children with special needs are not just accommodated, but truly welcomed with dignity and care.
Our Inclusive Spaces program focuses on adapting existing environments - particularly schools — to become more accessible and inclusive both physically and socially. Alongside infrastructure improvements, we provide teacher training, disability awareness education, and tailored support to help schools better include children with special needs.
Our journey began after witnessing the lack of accessible learning environments available to children with disabilities in Kenya. Many children were excluded from education entirely, while others were placed in overcrowded classrooms without the support they needed to thrive.
In response, Mama Respond partnered with schools, families, teachers, and local communities to remove barriers to inclusion and create spaces where every child has the opportunity to learn and belong.
One of our most significant achievements has been establishing the Special Needs Unit at Noonkopir Township Primary School in Kitengela. What began with just 12 students has now grown to support more than 70 children through accessible classrooms, trained staff, therapy spaces, disability-friendly facilities, and individualised learning support.
Beyond infrastructure, our work is about creating environments where children can build confidence, develop independence, and participate fully in school and community life.
Mama Respond continues advocating for accessible and inclusive education across Kenya while supporting schools and communities to understand disability better, reduce stigma, and ensure no child is left behind.
